High winds damage Penryn sports dome....... again

The sports dome at Penryn College has taken another battering in high winds just months after a hole was last torn in its roof.

In November, bad weather that saw part of the town flooded also opened up a huge tear in one of the panels that make up the tented dome’s roof.

This was repaired recently but the latest damage “is new and much worse than last time,” said Ross Hancock from the college.

“The new rip is much bigger and more severe and in a different place,” he said.

“It just causes disruption and headaches for clubs and lessons. The dome will probably be out of action for a fair amount of time.”

College insurers are currently looking into the repair costs Mr Hancock said, adding: “Fingers crossed that the wind doesn’t pick up and damage it further.”

High winds were also reported to have caused damage in Falmouth with Pennance Road near Swanpool closed on Tuesday morning due to a fallen tree.
