Hundreds of pounds worth of brand new fishing nets were stolen from a pontoon in the Helford Estuary last week.

The six 100 metre bass-type nets went missing sometime between Thursday, January 24 and Sunday, January 27.

Machine rigged by South West Netting, the nets were described by the police as three joined together to form a tier.

Helford Boat Watch PCSO Ben Gardiner, from Falmouth Police Station, said: “The top rope is blue polypropylene with white floats spaced every 12 feet. This top rope is not twisted but woven or braided.

“The bottom line is white with blue flecks. The mesh size is 3 and 5/8 inches and the net is attached to the head and foot rope by nylon stitching.”

Anyone with any information about the crime is asked to contact police on 101 ref AH/13/129.
