The tour manager for Port Isaac shanty singers the Fisherman's Friends has died and a member of the group is critically ill in hospital after an incident on tour.

It took place just hours before the group had been due to perform at G Live in Guilford, Surrey yesterday.

Tour manager Paul McMullen, from Cheshire, was killed while member Trevor Grills suffered injuries that have been described as "critical."

It is understood that a falling metal door may have been involved in the incident.

Darcus Beese, president of the group's label Island Records, has released a statement saying: "Everyone here is shocked by this tragic event, our hopes and prayers go out to the friends and families of those involved."

A statement from G Live has described Mr McMullen's death as "tragic", adding that everyone's thoughts were with his family.

It is understood that Surrey Police is investigating and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.
