Feock doctor elected as next president of the Royal College of Radiologists

A consultant radiologist from Feock has been elected as the next president of the Royal College of Radiologists.

Dr Giles Maskell is currently the director of cancer services at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and has worked in Cornwall since 1991.

He said: “It is a great honour to be elected and my aim is to ensure patients receive the best care clinical radiology and clinical oncology can offer. I look forward to serving the college and representing the Fellows and members over the next three years.”

The president, who is elected by the college’s fellows, has an overarching responsibility for the college as a whole and for the Faculties of Clinical Oncology and Clinical Radiology. As the chair of council and a trustee of the college as a registered charity, the president must ensure the council fulfils its duties as defined by the Charity Commission.

Dr Maskell will take over from the current president, Dr Jane Barrett, at the college’s annual general meeting which will be held in September.

Medical Director, Dr Paul Upton said: "This is great for Dr Maskell and for RCHT and is the first time I can remember there being a President of a Royal College from Cornwall. It gives the opportunity for Dr Maskell to influence policy decisions centrally and learn about developing issues that will be relevant for Cornwall.”
