The new nightclub being proposed for the former Remedies site in Falmouth, should not be allowed to remain open beyond 2am, according to town councillors.

Penswood Inns (Falmouth Ltd) has applied for a premises licence for Vanilla, which is to take over the first floor of the former nightclub on The Moor, and has requested 3am closing, seven days a week.

The application was discussed by Falmouth’s planning committee last week when concern was raised over the previous mis-use of a smoking area which had led to noise complaints.

Mayor, Geoffrey Evans, said the area had been licensed for ten people, but there had regularly been up to 80 people using it at a time.

Members were also concerned with the late night opening, but agreed to support the application, providing the club’s closing time was reduced from 3am until 2am. Councillor Alan Jewell said: “Clubs are opening too late, there’s no thought for the residents.”

The application will ultimately been determined by Cornwall Council, as will a planning application which seeks to make internal alterations to the club’s lay-out.
