An electrician was going to lose his job without his driving licence, as a result of driving a friend’s van after drinking – although he could not remember why, Truro magistrates were told.
Ben Duckham, aged 21, of Avenue Road, Falmouth, who pleaded guilty to drink driving in the town on February 2.
Alison May, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said police officers stopped him in the van at 1am having seen it being driven apparently with little control.
It had just missing parked cars and weaving from right to left. He tested at 94 mcg, nearly three times the limit.
His solicitor Graham Calderwood said he could not really understand how he came to be driving this commercial vehicle belonging to a friend who was staying the night.
He thought perhaps it had been parked where it could not stay and he had been asked for some reason to move it.
He had very little recollection of the matter.
Duckham was fined £110 and £105 costs and surcharge and banned from driving for 24 months.
