It’s been 20 years since the genius that is Mark E Smith last came to Cornwall, but now The Fall finally return with a gig at Falmouth's Princess Pavilion on Friday, May 24.
The seminal 70s post-punk band formed in Prestwich, Greater Manchester and are led by the inimitable Mark E Smith.
Of all the late-'70s punk and post-punk bands, none are longer-lived or more prolific than The Fall, having been known to always push boundaries, and never afraid to experiment.
Famously described as 'always different, always the same' by BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel, they have maintained their cult status over the decades with an ever-evolving style that still maintains a foundation of jagged guitars, sing-speak vocals, and keyboards to create experimental, abrasive and dense musical cacophony.
In the news just this week for lambasting Mumford & Sons and then declaring the last Fall album, 2011's Ersatz GB, a load of rubbish, Smith is one of the few remaining characters in music. His band return with new album Re-Mit in April (which he promises is much better).
It will be the 30th album since 1979's seminal Live At The Witch Trials for Salford's finest with every album being a gnarly garage-rocking, Krautrock-crazed, spitting-lyrical winner.
With an ever-changing sound but the constant of Smith's recalcitrant whine, The Fall are one of the true originals of the past 40 years.
