Community company formally takes over Falmouth pier (From Falmouth Packet)

Community company formally takes over Falmouth pier
10:20am Tuesday 19th March 2013 in News
All events taking place on Falmouth’s historic Prince of Wales Pier are now being coordinated by a Community Interest Company (CIC) which has taken over responsibility from Cornwall Council.
The Falmouth First CIC officially took over on March 1 with a licence that runs until 2018. It is committed to raising the profile, enjoyment and activity on the pier, described as the “front door” to the town.
CIC, interim chairman David Pollard said: “On behalf of Falmouth First CIC, I am delighted that we have the opportunity to raise the profile of the pier as an event centre and we are already in discussions with local organisations about exciting and innovative future events as well as continuing well established classics.
“At the same time, we respect the core activities of the pier as a key transport hub, a place simply to ‘take in the views’ and also its increasingly visited St Nazaire memorial.
“We believe that apart from a vibrant events environment on the pier, the increased activity will generate incremental footfall to the benefit of local businesses and perhaps generate funding to maintain and improve this priceless local asset.
Anybody interested in holding events on Prince of Wales Pier or who wants a director application form should contact the CIC at falmouthfirstcic@email.com or by calling 01872 863144.
