Burst pipe leaves parts of Penryn without water for 12 hours - VIDEO

Parts of Penryn were left without water for 12 hours last night and the Kernick Industrial Estate "looked like Venice" according to eyewitnesses after a pipe burst on the site.

Water could be seen gushing out from a broken 12 inch water main from approximately 6.45pm, which "mainly affected students living on Tremough Campus" according to a spokesperson from South West Water.

"Customers in the wider Penryn area" were also affected, however.

A bowser and water containers were delivered to the campus and workers struggled on throughout the night to fix the burst.

Normal service was restored by 7am.

The same thing happened in Mullion yesterday, all day the water pressure was low and by late afternoon the supply disappeared completely for myself and neighbours, South West Water informed me it was due to a burst water main in the village.
