A crewmember on a Tall Ship that had only just arrived in Falmouth keeled over from an anxiety attack last night.

The former Arctic trawler and coastal trading vessel Pelican of London arrived in the town's inner harbour yesterday morning having completed a crossing of the Atlantic.

Falmouth Coastguard received an emergency call at 20 minutes past midnight and tasked both the town's lifeboats to reports of a crewmember suffering from chest pains.

They were alongside by 12.34am and placed the casualty in the All Weather Lifeboat, where she was assessed and then transferred to an ambulance by 1.20am

A spokesman for the lifeboat said: "Following a thorough examination it was confirmed that the casualty had suffered a severe anxiety attack and once she had recovered sufficiently she was transferred back to the vessel in its own tender."

The Pelican was built in 1948 and spent much of her early life as a Norwegian fishing vessel.

Former Naval Commander Graham Neilson bought her in 1995 and transformed her into a Tall Ship. Her home port is Weymouth.
