If ever there was a case of smart parking this is surely it.

Perhaps the driver of this Smart car was short on time or maybe they are not a fan of parallel parking - certainly they can be forgiven for not wanting to risk getting too close to the edge of the kennels.

These parking spaces in Helston's Coinagehall Street are renowned for drivers getting a little too close to the edge and suddenly finding one or more of their wheels lying at the bottom of a ditch - usually resulting in them having to be towed out, with not a little damage to their vehicle.

Of course this motorist might have the right idea for the future of Helston's on-street parking as a whole.

There has been much debate in recent months over the best way to resolve the issue of the town's parking and one suggestion has been to have angled parking spaces along Coinagehall Street (which is wider than most of the streets) that motorists can drive into forwards and reverse out of.

This would allow many more cars to be parked than with the existing bay set-up - meaning more free parking and hopefully an increase in the number of shoppers using the town.

Only time will tell whether such ambitious changes will ever be made. One thing is for sure - most motorists are not advised to copy this style of parking for the foreseeable future...
