The Rotary Club of Falmouth has reinforced its support of charities which help the victims of stroke by making two large cash donations.
The club presented Wired Cornwall and the Phoenix Stroke Appeal with £1,000 each to give a boost to the work they do for the rehabilitation of stroke sufferers.
Dr Liz Barnes, clinical director of Wired Cornwall, said: “We will be four-years-old in August and are still totally self-funded so the support from Falmouth Rotary Club is very important and much appreciated.”
Wired Cornwall is a rehabilitation centre for stroke and acquired brain injury based at Allet, near Truro. It offers patients a variety of therapies and sees more than 100 people a week.
The Phoenix Stroke Appeal is based at Truro’s Royal Cornwall Hospital, but also supports dedicated stroke units at Camborne/Redruth and Bodmin hospitals.
Thanking the rotary club, Gillian Molesworth of the Phoenix appeal, said the money would make a major contribution to helping the 1,150 people who are admitted to hospital with strokes every year in Cornwall.
