Falmouth’s Pendennis Brass has qualified for the second section finals of the national brass band championships for the second time in three years.
Competing in Torquay on Saturday, Pendennis Brass were placed second to the Swindon Pegasus band from Wiltshire.
With a strong Cornish element in this section, Bugle St Keverne and St Pinnock claimed the next three places placing the duchy well ahead of bands from other areas.
Pendennis Brass, conducted by Steve Thomas, will now travel to Cheltenham in September to compete against 19 other bands from all over the country.
There were mixed fortunes for other Cornish bands in the other sections.
Camborne Junior Contesting Band, winners in section four, will join Pendennis in the finals as will Lanner and District Silver in section one. Bodmin also qualified in section three.
Other Cornish bands competing at Torquay were Camborne and Mount Charles in the championship section, Helston in section one, Heyl Town, St Stythians and Launceston in section three and Saltash and Pendeen in section four.
