A report on traffic on a major Mylor road has shown that some drivers are flouting the speed limit and hurtling through the village.

The report, which was based on a five day radar check held in Bells Hill in early February, was discussed at the latest meeting of Mylor and Flushing Parish Council.

Local resident Katie Zabell quoted figures that seemed to suggest hundreds of motorists had been caught speeding by the radar check but council chairman John Symons said a recent check in Waterings Road “was three times worse.”

Mr Symons said that out of 5,000 cars checked by the radar “870 were actually speeding,” but councillor Mike Burden said “a highly paid official from Cornwall Council” had recently been out to the road “and said there was nothing to worry about.”

A copy of the “RadarClass” report commissioned by Cormac and seen by the Packet identified 5,214 vehicles travelling on Bells Hill between February 1-5.

Falmouth Packet:

Of the thousands of vehicles checked, 4,344 were travelling below 30 mph, 718 between 30 mph and 34 mph and 152 were recorded as doing 35 mph or more.

Fifteen vehicles were caught travelling faster than 40mph over the five day period.

Mr Symons said: “I think this is quite an important issue and it needs to be solved, but I don’t think we are going to solve it tonight in five minutes. What I think is we need another meeting.”

The council resolved to organise a meeting with Cornwall Council’s highways department in April and invite Sarah Newton, the local MP for the area.
