The family of a Truro motorcyclist who died at Chybucca on Saturday have paid tribute to a "larger than life" robotics engineer who had an "infectious laugh".

David Mason, aged 52, was involved in a road smash on the A30 near Chiverton Cross alongside another motorcycle and a pickup truck.

The accident took place at 10.35 am when Mr Mason was travelling westwards in the same direction as the pickup.

He first hit the truck before smashing into the second motorcycle which was travelling in the opposite direction, police said.

The other motorcycist, a 23 year old man, suffered an arm injury. The driver and passenger of the pickup were not injured.

Mr Mason died at the scene.

The road was closed until 4.15 pm for forensic examination to take place.

In a statement, Mr Mason's family said: "Dave was a ‘larger than life,’ hard working, loving and caring man.

"He was a talented robotics engineer and worked on the cutting edge of projects which he promoted across Europe.

"He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, also finding the opportunity to pursue sailing, gardening, extending the family home and at weekends the freedom of riding his motor bike across Cornwall.

"He had a brilliant sense of humour with an infectious laugh. He will be very sadly missed by all his family, friends and his colleagues at work including the contacts and customers he made across the continent."

Mr Mason lived near the scene of the accident with his wife Lisa and her two children Lauren and Daniel.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or the events leading up to it, is asked to call the police on 0800 555111 quoting log number 389 of 30/03/13.
