There is a saying in the show business world that “the show must go on” - but unfortunately, at Carleen, it can't.

Cast illness during rehearsals and several cast members developing unforeseen long term medical problems means that Carleen Pantomime Group has had to cancel this year's production of Red Riding Hood.

Although the remaining cast looked at various ways of keeping the show alive, it became obvious that there were just too many problems and complications to carry on.

Panto group chairman Tony Acland said: “I have received several phone calls and requests for tickets to the pantomime recently. We did put the word out that the show had had to be cancelled but obviously not far enough.

“It wasn't a decision taken lightly by the committee. We tried every way to keep it going, but it became clear that there was no other option.

“We all felt sad about this, especially as so much hard work had gone into the show both from the cast and back stage crew. We particularly felt for the children involved as they had worked really hard on their parts and it is a big disappointment for them. Hopefully everyone will be back and in full health next year.”

All is not wasted, however, and Red Riding Hood will return as the group's show for February 2014.

The show will be open to anyone regardless of ability, with enthusiasm and commitment more important factors.

Auditions will take place in late September, with rehearsals restarting shortly afterwards.
