A Mullion theatre group is preparing for the “most exciting and challenging production” in its nine years of existence.

Members of Gulls Theatre Group are presenting the stage version of 'Allo 'Allo, which faithfully reproduces the characters and storylines from the much-loved TV series.

The story is set up in a small town café in Nazi-occupied France during World War II, with many comical situations ensuing.

Director Mary Druce said she delighted with every aspect of the production.

She told the Packet: “I was a little worried to begin with that we wouldn't get enough men - the age-old problem of every amateur drama group. But, to our great surprise, they came forward until we actually had too many.

“It's lovely to have some new members and we have had a super time rehearsing this very, very funny show.”

The group has hired many of the costumes and props, including those for the gendarmes and German officers, from a theatre company online to help keep costs down.

Gulls has also received a grant from the Cornwall Community Fund.

'Allo 'Allo opens at Mullion Comprehensive School next Wednesday, April 10 and runs until Friday, April 12. Tickets cost £6, or £5 for children, and are on sale at Mullion Post Office. The venue is wheelchair friendly, and the play is suitable for children.

It is described as “naughty and fun”, just like the TV series, but “far from offensive.”

Friday night's show is already a sell out but there are still tickets left for the Wednesday and Thursday.
