Porthleven is to have its own version of television’s Ready Steady Cook featuring none other than celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson.

The competition will open this year’s Porthleven Food and Music Festival on April 20.

Antony, who is patron of the festival, will be appearing for the fifth year in succession and this time will be competing in a showcase at 10.15am against Jude Kereama, chef and owner of Porthleven’s Kota and Kota Kai. The pair will begin a day of demonstrations in the main marquee, with the theme of this year’s festival being Sourced from the Sea.

Following immediately on from the opening will be the son of TV’s Rick Stein, Jack Stein, from The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, who has cooked in Paris, Australia, the Far East and Japan. Also giving demonstrations will be Andy Appleton from Fifteen Cornwall, one of the team that launched the Fifteen concept back in 2002, and Mick Smith of the Porthminster Beach Cafe in St Ives, Lee Groves from Seagrass in St Ives, a semi-finalist of TV’s MasterChef The Professionals 2010, and Bruno Helebrandt of Porthleven’s Amelies.

Antony Worrall Thompson said: “I’m whole-heartedly behind local food, and Cornwall has some great producers and chefs. This year there are more than 70 very local producers attending the festival with over 100 stalls stretching all the way down the cobbles to the clock tower.

“My wife and family enjoy the atmosphere and the very warm welcome we get here, too”.
