Porthleven Food and Music Festival has been given £500 from the port’s town council towards its event later this month.

The main part of 2013 festival will take place on Saturday, April 20 but this year there will also be a fundraising event on the preceding Friday and on the Sunday the Blue Anchor in Helston will be using the marquee for a music event between 11am and 9pm.

David Turnbull, festival chairman, told Porthleven town councillors that the committee had been working with local fishermen as part of this year’s theme ‘Sourced from the Sea’.

Also new to this year will be an extra stage at the Salt Cellars side of the harbour, where there were buskers last year. This year it will be a more formal area for music.

A major change will be the Young People’s Festival moving to the shipyard, to the left of the harbour head building. In the past this has taken place on a field and there have been problems with wet ground, so although this is a smaller area the relocation should mean the events can take place regardless of the weather.

A road closure will be in place on Harbour Road, Salt Cellar Hill and Cliff Road until 5pm on the Saturday, to allow stalls to spread further round.
