A coastal home destroyed by fire that was previously owned by actress Kate Winslet has had a redesign.

Cornish firm CSA Architects have secured planning consent for a the new home at Tintagel.

Now derelict, Castle Minor was owned for ten years by actress Kate Winslet after which it was gutted by fire last year.

CSA say that the design was inspired by the culture and myths of the area, with stone buttresses which appear to emerge from the landscape, and similar to a small Iron Age settlement, the curve of the building will create a protected ‘keep’ at the centre of the home.

In reference to the fabled Tintagel Castle opposite, the new design also includes a moat and drawbridge.

The site, off Atlantic Road, is a level plateau next to a quarry face. The hill is steep so CSA have embedded the tiered house into its landscape.

Justin Dodge, MD of CSA Architects said: "Hewn out of the landscape, the new house will take a sculptural form which relates to the quarry face and the surrounding landscape. Our design draws inspiration from King Arthur’s castle but benefits from modern renewable technologies that make it sustainable. ”

"Sustainability is addressed through a number of key features such as a green roof grown from local species of flora and the use of local materials.

Work is due to begin on the site later this year.
