Sending a double decker bus careering into parked boats at Ponsharden boatyard landed a Falmouth vandal in crown court this week.

Luke Anthony Pentecost, of Meadowbank Road, pleaded guilty to causing nearly £13,000 worth of damage at Truro Crown Court on Friday.

The 20-year-old had released the handbrake on a parked Western Greyhound bus on July 21 last year, the court heard, sending it freewheeling into two motorboats and a parked four by four.

In a separate incident, the unemployed Pentecost also pleaded guilty to burglary of the then University College Falmouth's Woodlane Campus on May 26 last year.

He stole a camera, voice recorder and projector, the court heard.

Both cases were adjourned for sentencing at a later date.

Described by his solicitor Jeremy Leaning as a "man with strong community ties" Pentecost was warned by Judge Peter Johnson not to make any assumptions about his sentence.

"The fact that I'm adjourning this case," Mr Johnson said, "and the fact that I'm granting you bail should not be taken by you as any indication of the likely sentence.

"This is a very serious matter," he added.

According to sentencing guidelines, Pentecost could face up to 10 years in jail for his crimes.
