In this week's Falmouth/Penryn Packet - out now!

Controversial plans for Falmouth Wharves on North Parade have been thrown out by Cornwall Council, much to the delight of objectors - but against planning officers' recommendations.

A boatyard bus smash vandal (below) pleaded guilty to thousands of pounds worth of criminal damage in Falmouth last summer. Click here to see a video of the youth's crimes:

A student became stuck in river mud between Penryn and Flushing while trying to take pictures of wading birds. He was rescued shortly before the tide could claim him.

Asda Penryn lost its planning appeal this week and will be forced to close the makeshift pharmacy (pictured below) it has been operating in the supermarket car park since December.

Cornwall Council enforcement have demanded "that the unlawful pharmacy ceases trading and that the portcabin be removed from the car park of the store."

MEANWHILE

In this week's Helston Packetout now!

Businesses in Helston have come out fighting against plans for a pasty drive-through on the town's outskirts. The scheme was given its first public airing this week.

The musical director of Helston Town Band is laying down his baton after more than a decade in charge. John Hitchens will finish at the end of June.

A fingerpost sign has appeared in Mullion to help visitors find the village's main attractions. The sign was designed to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee last year.

The police were perplexed by a Helston man who crashed his cars during the early hours only to disappear by the time they arrived, a court heard this week. A police dog found the missing driver 500 yards away, fast asleep.

Porthleven pupils were honing their cookery skills ahead of the port's food festival at the weekend with a competition based on popular TV show "Ready, Steady Cook."

Two teams of year five pupils, helped by their teachers, cooked up a storm at the port's primary school in a bid to dish out the best ingredients:
