A man has been arrested and charged with GBH following an attack on an elderly man in Falmouth last week.
Stephen Irwin, aged 52 and from Stoke on Trent, was arrested following the disturbance on Dracaena Avenue at 6.40pm on Wednesday.
On arrival the police found the victim, who is in his seventies, with injuries so serious that he has been receiving treatment at the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske for the past six days.
DC Al Jordan, from Falmouth Police Station, said: "This is believed to be an isolated incident and police are carrying out local enquiries to progress the investigation."
Police officers and a forensic team were still on site two days later, according to passersby.
