A knife-wielding Falmouth teen with a history of carrying weapons was jailed this week after a police stop check.

Alex Burgoyne, of Trevaylor Road, was caught carrying a knife on Thursday, appeared in Bodmin Magistrates Court on Saturday and was committed to prison for eight months later that day.

Since the start of 2013 the 19-year-old has been in trouble with the police on a number of occasions.

In January he was jailed for 12 weeks after three children spotted him hiding a 12 inch knife in a hedge and reported him to the police.

The day after his release he was caught with an imitation firearm and jailed for a further 12 weeks.

He will now serve a minimum of four months in Exeter Prison’s Young Offender’s Institution.

Sergeant Martin Roberts, from Falmouth Police Station, welcomed the proactive nature of the arrest and the fact that Burgoyne would be “off the street” for most of the busy summer season.

“There’s some really good work being done,” he said.

Elsewhere, officers have charged four people with drug possession after stop checks on the street.

The latest was in the Goldenbank area of Falmouth on Sunday, May 5.
