A Big Produce market will set out its stall in Truro today with 50 food producers selling fresh, seasonal produce .

The market follows the success of last year's Jubilee Market, and is billed as bigger than ever, with guest chefs cooking in the food tent, live music and a wide range of fresh produce.

Organised by the Truro Farmers’ Market and set undercover on the Piazza the market will run 9am to 4pm.

Matt from the Mussel Shack will be on hand, cooking fresh mussels which are gathered by free diving in the River Fal.

Matt said: "Hand diving for our mussels means that we only take as much as we need for the week ahead, selecting larger mussels and leaving the smaller ones to grow on. This method of harvesting makes it all extremely sustainable.

"Hand cleaning means that mussels have a longer shelf life and suffer less stress than machine cleaning."

More shellfish will be on hand with fresh crab, lobster and scallops from Cadgwith Cove. Caught from the coast around the Lizard in small boats, this is shellfish at its freshest whether still in its shell or handpicked for your convenience. Melanie will be happy to tell you how to prepare any of her shellfish.

The first of its kind in the South West and also their first appearance in Truro is Cornish Gouda, a small, family run business from Lanreath. A selection of hand made gouda including mild, medium, semi-mature, mature as well as flavoured gouda will be offered to taste and buy.

Rebel Brewery, from Penryn, will be there showing off their handcrafted artisan beers and ales using the latest renewable energy technology.

Deli Pops from St. Agnes is the very latest in hand made ice lollies that are actually good for you! Made with locally sourced and foraged ingredients, some of the many flavours available include blackberry, elderflower, strawberry and cream, pear and ginger.

The next Big Produce Market will be held on Friday and Saturday, August 30 and 31.
