A Falmouth and Helston neighbourhood sergeant, famous for organising the successful charity video that parodied last summer's smash hit “Gangnam Style”, has been suspended.

Sgt Gary Watts, pictured above, faces allegations of gross misconduct and has been temporarily removed from his post while an internal inquiry is carried out.

Further details of the complaint were not released by Devon and Cornwall Police.

The ex-RAF man dreamt up and starred in the "Gangnam Policeman" video earlier this year, to help a young boy from Lancashire who has severe disabilities following an operation on a brain tumour.

He was also known for his very public presence on social networking website Twitter, where is still registered as having more than 10,000 followers.

His account - @SgtGaryWatts - now states that it is “protected,” however, with posts only accessible to “confirmed followers”.

It is understood that his suspension is not related to his charity work or social media usage. He was unavailable for comment.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: “An officer is being investigated for gross misconduct and has been suspended as a result.

“The force referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission which deemed it suitable for local investigation by Devon and Cornwall Police.”

Although refusing to refer to Sgt Watts by name, the spokesman added: “The officer in question has not been charged with any offence and therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”
