Emergency services were called to an accident at Freeman's Wharf in Ponsharden on Friday after reports of a man trapped under scrap metal.

The fire brigade, police, coastguard and a specialist unit were called to the incident at around 4.50pm.

An eyewitness told the Packet that whilst unloading some metal using a crane it appeared a "girder" or something similar fell on the man, trapping him underneath.

A spokesman for the coastguard said he had to be cut free by a specialist unit from Camborne.

Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were able to employ their rope rescue techniques to recover the injured man, who was trapped in the trailer of an articulated lorry.

At the last report, he was seen sitting upright in the back of a lorry with a bandage wrapped around his head.

He has sustained serious head and chest injuries.
