A green fingered gardener opened her pride and joy at the weekend as part of ongoing fundraising by Helston-Lizard Inner Wheel.

Members are raising money for BF Adventure based at Halvasso near Longdowns, as the charity the club has chosen to support for the next year, and president Linda Ford decided to do her bit by welcoming visitors to her walled gardens at her home in Sithney – a Georgian vicarage off the Helston to Hayle road.

On Sunday members of the public had a chance to explore more than an acre of grounds, which include a pond, patio, arbor and pergola, all planted in the flowers and shrubs unique to Cornish gardens.

There was also a barbecue and cream teas served throughout the afternoon, as well as cakes and plants to buy and entertainment was provided by Celtic Chords, a ladies’ barbershop chorus.

All proceeds raised will be donated to BF Adventure, an outdoor activity centre that helps disadvantaged, disaffected and disabled young people across the county, with Helston-Lizard Inner Wheel aiming to help fund a new kitchen and lecture room at the centre.

Gloria Knight from by Helston-Lizard Inner Wheel said the perfect summer's day certainly brought out the crowds for the garden open day, with around 200 guests enjoying a sunny wander around the paths and flowers, taking home plants and cakes all donated by the women of the Inner Wheel Club.

Local businesses also helped with Brandon Tool Hire supplying the conveniences and a “car load of plants” from Trevena Cross Nursery.

The event raised close to £1,200, all of which will be donated to BF Adventure.
