Green fingered grower opens Porthallow paradise tomorrow

First published in News

A green fingered grower from Porthallow will be opening her garden gate on Sunday to welcome guests for a charity fundraiser.

Dorothy Pelling opens her garden to the public only once a year as a way to raise funds for Cancer research UK.

While Dorothy’s patch of paradise has won Best Garden in Kerrier in the past, much of her skill was self taught.

After leaving her job at the Ministry of Defence, Dorothy bought tea rooms in the village and set about creating a gorgeous garden setting.

Setting up with virtually no experience of baking or gardening, she learnt by immersing herself in books and magazines and by the greatest teacher of all, trial and error.

Entrance is priced at £2 for adults, with free entrance for children.

I'll sit in the cafe if it rains lol, hope the tide isn't in, parking is on the beach at Porthallow. Just have to guess what time the garden is open.

Oh dear, I think you will find it is Sunday the 30th June and therefore a little premature with updating the info this Saturday perhaps. The article I have just noticed has no date for the event.

Its a bit confusing cos the headline dated yesterday (Sat 15th) says she will be opening her garden tomorrow which would be today. perhaps by next week the summer will return.

If this article remains on the website with no date of the event on it, there is the risk that someone might toddle off to the event again this coming Sunday in the same way they may have done last Sunday when in fact it is on Sunday 30th June.

Good bit of detective work and as you say may save someone a wasted trip,
