Falmouth will fill with voices raised in song from today as the town hosts the tenth International Sea Shanty Festival.

With  39 groups over 20 venues spread through the town, this year's event is gearing up to be a weekend to remember.

The team responsible for delivering Falmouth’s International Sea Shanty Festival gathered on The Moor for a photoshoot after their final meeting ahead of this year’s tenth anniversary event.

Headed by town manager, Richard Gates, the group is made up of business owners, publicans, RNLI officers and volunteers who have spent the last ten months preparing for what promises to be the biggest and best festival yet.

John Warren, one of the event organisers, said: “We are convinced that we have in place a world beating line up of performers that, combined with the Falmouth Classics sailing regatta, will result in one of the best free weekends for families ever.

“The emphasis is always on fun and I challenge anyone who comes to Falmouth for the festival not to leave with a smile on their face.”

The festival’s opening ceremony will take place at 6.30pm on Friday at Events Square and will conclude there at 5pm on Sunday with a grand massed singing finale.

In between there will be performances by 35 groups at 15 venues across the town and out as far as the Pandora Inn at Restronguet.

Over the past decade the festival has raised more than £30,000 for the RNLI.
