The week ending on Sunday, the tenth in ordinary time, ended on a high note. In the afternoon of Saturday, Father Jon Bielawski took part in the 44-mile marathon from the Lizard to Land’s End and completed this successfully. In the evening the Ignite youth group met in the hall.

On Sunday morning six young parishioners made their first Holy Communion. The church was packed with their families, friends and school fellows. The parish welcomed Michael Guest, a first year student at seminary, who had come to spend a few weeks at St Mary’s.

On Monday evening the prayer group met and the Bible study group met on Tuesday. Circuit training was held in the hall for energetic parishioners who think of taking part in marathons. On Wednesday, after the evening mass, the DVD Empowered to Serve was shown in the hall. This was the sixth and last in a series of spiritual talks, in preparation for Pentecost.

On Thursday St Mary’s in Helston held their annual barbecue in the presbytery garden.

At St Mary’s Falmouth there was a flower festival from Friday June 14 to Tuesday June 18. The theme was Inspirational Women and there were many beautiful flower arrangements, each one celebrating s specific individual. An arts and crafts exhibition was arranged daily in the hall and cream teas were available. On Friday evening St Mary’s School Choir, together with the St Keverne Youth Band gave a performance in the church. The flower arrangements remained to be enjoyed by parishioners throughout the weekend services. On Sunday evening a service of Songs of Praise feature parishioners favourite hymns.

The pro-life prayer vigil was held outside Treliske Hospital on Saturday morning. Sunday was the 11th in ordinary time. There was a warm welcome to two new members of the church: Elijas Parkus and Poppy Angus, who were baptised in St Mary’s, Helston.
