LUMC: As part of the celebrations for its 150th anniversary, the church council at Leedstown United Methodist Church has presented Bibles and Bible storybooks to all of the pupils at Leedstown School, with the support of the charity “Bibles for Children” based in Bath. These were enthusiastically received during an assembly last Friday. The Junior Church would like to thank the church council for sponsoring this project, and hope that the Bibles will support the children’s greater understanding of the Christian Faith and their RE lessons at School. The charity’s follow-on scheme, whereby in future each pupil entering Year 2 and Year 5 at the school will receive a Children’s Bible and a Good News Bible respectively, will now be considered. Other churches can find information on the website Biblesforchildren.org.uk.

Leedstown annual reflection on the work of the charity “Action for Children” this year took the form of all-age worship on Fathers’ Day, with the theme “In Perfect Harmony”. Arranged by Tania Bird, the local secretary for AfC, many musicians were involved and elements of music was explained to the children. Gerald Verran, organist in post for the last 51 years, was asked to play his accordion for one of the hymns for a change, which was enjoyed. The Junior Church performed a rap and sang with soloist Kathryn Willoughby. Others taking part were Graham Woodcock (vocal), Tania (treble recorder), and Lewis Verran and Matthew Bird (guitars). Prayers included remembrance of all musicians and singers who had enhanced worship, and provided entertainment in the village, for the last 150 years, and also the church’s role in safeguarding children everywhere. Tania thanks everyone for donations received for AfC work in Cornwall, and those who served refreshments.

The Junior Church plans to meet at Marazion Beach on Sunday at 11am, with young people from other local churches. A 60th anniversary celebration of the Coronation for the children is on July 21. All welcome.
