For its ninety-fourth birthday celebrations, members arranged a visit to Porthleven on a fine and sunny afternoon.

About 20 members and friends gathered to walk around the harbour, visit some of the interesting craft shops and have an illustrated talk by Patricia Williams on the history of Porthleven. Members learnt much that was new about this charming seaside village. This was a very sociable occasion, with former member Doreen Fletcher and her husband joining the gathering after their annual sojourn in foreign parts. The walk finished with tea for all and scrumptious cakes with Cornish cream at Nauti but Nice, a very pleasant tea shop on the harbour side.

The next event is a visit by Eunice Woolcock of Pengegon WI, to Truthwall Farm, by kind permission of Sheila and David Goldsworthy. Sheila is WI President this year. Eunice will meet members and friends and talk about her famous pasty-making exploits, her television appearances and her recent visit to Buckingham Palace. Many years ago, when living locally, Eunice was a member of Leedstown WI.

The next monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 9 at 7.15pm at LUMC, will be a talk on “Leakproof Laughter”. If you are intrigued by the title come along and find out what this is all about. Visitors always welcome! There is also an afternoon outing to the Lizard for members on July 16.
