A Constantine teenager is one step closer to playing in the Premiership after reports that a fee has been agreed by his current club, Torquay United.

Liam Prynn, a pupil at Penryn College could join Aston Villa's Academy this summer after a series of talks about his future.

Torquay United’s head of youth development Geoff Harrop is reported to have been negotiating the deal, although the club has remained tight-lipped over the details.

A Villa spokesman said on last week that talks were at an advanced stage and an offer had been made.

Prynn broke into Torquay’s Football League Alliance U18s youth team this season and was due to take up a two-year scholarship at Plainmoor later this month.

But Villa were so keen not to miss out that an offer was made early to avoid competition from other top flight clubs.

Villa will reportedly pay an initial fee for the youngster, which is expected to rise depending on his progress through the ranks at Villa Park.

The Midlanders’ training academy at Bodymoor Heath is renowned for nurturing young footballing talent.

Torquay United chief executive Andrew Candy said: "As I understand it, the terms have been agreed, and all parties are happy about the situation.

"We are certainly excited. The deal is good news for the club, and for Liam and his family.

"But it's good for our other youth players, who see that things like this can happen to a youngster at Torquay United.

"It is also a real boost for the staff and coaches in our youth department."
