Volunteers who can spare maybe as little as an hour of their time are being sought by the Penryn and Falmouth Foodbank, who plan to take advantage of a national collection day next weekend.

Tesco are working in partnership with the Trussell Trust and Fareshare to hold their second annual collection events on July 5 and 6 and the local Foodbank now needs the extra help to reap the greatest benefits from the initiative.

“We will be collecting in Tesco as part of the Trussell Trust at the Killigrew Street branch in Falmouth and we have been offered the opportunity to collect at Tesco in Helston as well if we can get a big enough team together,” said Foodbank coordinator, Dawn McColl.

“The Tesco Express at the Trago Mills end of Falmouth is currently collecting for Fareshare and food donated to them will be distributed from Bristol.”

The Penryn and Falmouth Foodbank has seen a dramatic increase in demand for its services with families and individuals of all ages desperately needing its help.

Boxes containing enough food for about five days are handed out every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to people who have been referred to the service.

Anyone able to donate an hour to help with collections on July 5 or 6 at Tesco, or on August 10 at Asda should email foodbank@highwaychurch.co.uk or call 01326 618575 and leave a message.
