The director of the Poly in Falmouth has resigned - prompting concerns for the art centre's future.

Charles Savage stood down from his post at the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society last week, just nine months after first taking up the reigns.

He will leave at the end of this month and some members have raised concerns that his departure was forced.

Vice chairman, Louis Turner, is understood to have quit his post over the issue.

Eleven members, including Mr Turner, are now calling for an extraordinary general meeting because they "believe we are endangering our chances of establishing the Poly in its full role as the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society, not only as a local arts centre, but as a Cornwall-wide society promoting and supporting the arts and sciences," they said in an open letter to members.

Around 60 people, or ten per cent of the Poly's membership, have to agree to holding an extraordinary meeting for one to take place.
