First published in News

After delays and cancelations due to bad winter weather, a plan to create a hard surface runway at Land's End has been confirmed.

Major improvements, including a hard surface runway, have also been announced for the airport at St Mary's on the Isles of Scilly will also be updated.

£1.2 million of European cash will be spent at Land's End, with more than £5million spent on the island airport improvements.

The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, which owns the airport, will also pay for the improvements.

The aim is to have the facility ready for autumn, with work starting in September.

The waterlogged grass runway saw flights stopped for three months
