A celebratory fete has been held to raise money for Helston Community Hospital, organised by its League Of Friends.

The day was opened by Helston’s mayor Jonathan Radford-Gaby, who was joined by league chairman Anne Russell and president Dr Ken Whittle for the ceremony.

Candy Baker, chairman of the County League of Friends, was also there for the occasion.

Visitors were able to enjoy a range of stalls selling everything from bric-a-brac and cakes to toys and games.

The day also offered a chance for old friends to catch up over a cup of tea and slice of homemade cake, or strawberries and cream.

As a result of the fete and some |generous donations from supporters, a total of £1,050 was raised for hospital funds.

Jo Coward, secretary of the Friends group, said: “The fine weather made a big difference to us. We felt there was more people than usual.

“Thank you to the people that turned up – we appreciate their support.”

The blue skies and sunshine meant that visitors could sit outside the hospital’s sensory garden – a past |project of the group.

Other past fundraising has included creating the Jack Johns Suite, for relatives of particularly sick patients to stay in.
