The site of the former Falmouth Beach Hotel, which was partially destroyed by fire over a year ago, is to be bought by the owners of the neighbouring St Michael’s Hotel and Spa.

The deal is due to be completed by the end of the month and 29 bedrooms that escaped the blaze, together with three self-catering apartments, are planned to be reopened under the St Michael's banner by August 8.

Nigel Carpenter, owner of St Michael’s Hotel and Spa and now the site next door, said: “We are very excited by the purchase and look forward to welcoming visitors once again.

“Collectively, the site is the best in Falmouth right opposite the wonderful Blue Flag Gyllyngvase Beach. I am sure guests will be delighted to return once they know it has re-opened for accommodation stays.”

The former Falmouth Beach Hotel rooms and apartments will initially operate on a "room-only" basis and guests will be invited to take breakfast, dinner and spa treatments at the four-star St Michael’s Hotel just 20 metres away.

Their opening is expected to create an extra 12 full-time jobs in the short term with more in the longer term. Once the hotel and apartments are back in business, Mr Carpenter will focus on his long term plans for the site and develop a "masterplan" for the whole area.

“It is our intention to consult with our neighbours and the local community and looks at visitor trends carefully before developing proposals for the future of the whole site,” said Mr Carpenter.

“It will be important to understand what type of accommodation or facility is going to attract visitors to Falmouth in the future. Architecturally we want to create something which is stylish and attractive.

“I am delighted that we have a wonderful opportunity to bring economic activity, jobs and prosperity back to this area which was devastated by the fire over a year ago. We are all excited about building something great for the future, something which Falmouth can be proud of.”
