Firefighters were called out to Jubilee Wharf in Penryn last night after a report of smoke coming from a live-in barge moored alongside the quay.

Two fire engines from Falmouth Fire Station attended just after 11pm with the barge, approximately ten metres long by three metres wide, heavily smoke logged when the crews arrived.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went onboard and extinguished the fire using one hosereel.

Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team also attended to provide waterside safety cover for the fire crews.

The emergency services remained at the scene damping down hotspots, clearing the smoke and investigating the cause of the fire until shortly after 1am.
