An elderly woman had to be rescued from a deck chair after becoming trapped for hours yesterday.

Firefighters were called out to Polruan at 10pm after the woman was found by a neighbour who is reported to have visited to water the plants.

The woman in her 80s could have been trapped for for most of Monday, until she was discovered in her rear garden.

A firefighter is reported as saying she may have been trapped for "quite a long time" however they did not know exactly how long.

Polruan station manager Peter Ripley has said that the canvas seat had broken on a metal deck chair  and that she had become stuck and unable to free herself.

He added that she had an injury to one leg, as they had been over the bar at the front of the chair, and that as she had been in the sun for "quite a long time", she was dehydrated and "quite brown".

The ambulance service was also called out and the woman was taken to hospital as a precaution.
