A “huge” extension to a Penryn bungalow was given the green light by town planners this week.
The application, from Nicola and Ian Spencer, calls for a new kitchen, living room and decking area to be added to the rear of their home on Woodland Avenue.
Although vice chair of planning Ted Wilkes called the proposals “too big” and ex-mayor Gill Grant labelled them “huge” new councillor and former architect Chris Smith said “it improves the look of the place,” while chair of town planning Mark Snowdon said he thought “on planning grounds it would be tough to turn it down.”
“As we all know, it’s a lot easier and cheaper to extend your house than to move in to a four bedroom place from a two bed,” Mr Snowdon said.
“If the neighbours have not objected and they have got the land, then why can’t they have a nice big lounge and dining room?”
Councillors resolved to offer no objections to the application. Cornwall Council will now make the final decision.
