Mullion School set the standard at this year’s Cornwall School Games gig rowing event.
Held in Mylor Harbour, Mullion fielded strong teams that surpassed the skill of rival competitors.
Mullion has always excelled in the traditional Cornish sport of gig rowing, with a large amount of pupils training and competing throughout the summer months in local clubs.
The event was part of the third annual Cornwall School Games and the school has competed and won medals each year for gig rowing and indoor rowing.
The teams were selected by the experienced coaches, who have been thanked by the school for bringing together four teams to represent the school.
Coxwains from both Cadgwith and Coverack gig clubs were involved in the process of choosing the crews, taking into account race experience, technical prowess and flexibility in the boat.
As a result of their work, Mullion School dominated the competition this year, winning all four age groups.
On the day the club coxes successfully steered the teams through the heats and into the finals to win the under 16 open, under 16 girls, under 14 open and under 14 girls events. The children were left delighted, the school staff proud and the club coaches rewarded.
