Falmouth Fire Station has held an “Urban Speed Event” to raise enough money to take local school children on a trip to raise awareness of the dangers of the road.

The event was organised and supervised by Gallaway Martin, who invited anybody who wanted to show their cars off and have a chance at winning awards.

These were given to people who had the “best wheels” and “best car” overall, with people entered into a raffle to win special prizes.

Entry tickets cost £3, with added cost for a raffle ticket, and with more than 60 cars at the event the fire department raised over £200.

Watch manager Martyn Addinall said that they were “very pleased” with the overall outcome.

The event has been running for the past six years and Mr Addinall said that since publicising the event more on social networking sites there had been much more of a response.
