A batch of fake firearms is off the streets this week after they were handed in to Falmouth police station.

They were not the result of a so-called weapons "amnesty" as it was initially believed, but were in fact handed in by the family of a man that collected them and only recently died.

The eleven replica weapons were recovered alongside "a large bag of knives," PC Barry Nicholas, from Falmouth police station, said.

The "very convincing replica firearms" were taken to be destroyed by property officers yesterday.

"Better with us than on the streets," PC Nicholas said.
