On Sunday the service was taken by the Rev Brian Mavers, which started by singing “With gladness we worship.”

In the prayers of thanksgiving Brian prayed that when we are sometimes feeling down or burdened, we know that God knows our needs, when we stumble He picks us up and thanks that we can live with Him in peace.

The lesson was read from 2 Samuel chapter 12. In his sermon Brian said he asked his father many questions when he was a youngster. Many times we ask questions such as “What shall we do to inherit eternal life? Do we know our neighbours? Years ago we knew everyone who lived near us, we cannot shut the door on people we do not know, that’s not being a good neighbour. In the Bible the one who showed kindness was the Good Samaritan, that is being a good neighbour.

In the prayers of intercession, prayers were said for each other; those we know and those we are getting to know, praying that God will make us faithful. Prayers were said for the Rev Arthur Cowburn and Janice who will be leaving us very soon; for our circuit; for those in need; in care and our community and all who care for them; finally for the problems throughout the world.

The closing hymn was “May the mind of Christ my Saviour.” Organist was Markus Mueller.

On Sunday the service will be taken by Peter Mehaffey. There will be Pop-In on Monday from 1.30pm.
