Members were excited to meet at the Badger Inn at 7pm on Thursday, July 11 for the Lelant Rosamund Pilcher walk led by Vivienne Robinson.

Rosamund’s early writing had been for Mills and Boon, later developing into a romantic novelist whose stories were set in Cornish locations. Vivienne explained that Rosamund’s family were wealthy and middle class with nannies and servants, their home being nearby. The first part of the stroll was down to Lelant station on the estuary where Vivienne read a few passages from one of Rosamund’s books, which evoked the scene perfectly.

The group then wandered on to St Uny, a typical old granite Church where Rosamund had married, with its sunny panoramic view of the Hayle estuary, Gwithian dunes and Godrevy Island beyond. After crossing the coastal path and dunes of Lelant Golf Course the group walked back to Lelant Village and the Badger. After a short meeting the beautiful evening ended with a well-earned drink and a bite to eat.

The competition for a pressed flower greeting card was won by Diana.
