Helston drink driver trapped in car after crashing into sign and hedge
11:50am Wednesday 24th July 2013 in News
A Helston woman who the police suspected of being a drink driver was trapped in her car after it hit a road sign and then a Cornish hedge, meaning she had to be released by fire officers.
Lisa Maria Littlemore, aged 30, of Godolphin Road, subsequently pleaded guilty to failing to provide a blood sample for analysis on May 11.
Alison May, for the CPS, said the fire services were called to the Camborne to Praze road and found Littlemore's vehicle on its roof in a field, with Littlemore and her boyfriend passenger trapped as the roof was crushed. The passenger was extremely drunk and there were empty cans of lager in the vehicle.
At hospital Littlemore refused to give a blood sample and was obstructive.
She had no previous convictions.
Her solicitor Elliott Moore said she blamed water on the road for the accident. She had not drunk alcohol and the cans in the car had exploded.
Her driver had been drinking and she had been concussed, and may have passed out and gasping for breath. She always giggled when she was nervous. She had only passed her driving test last September.
A kitchen assistant working part-time in Helston, Littlemore had no issues with alcohol and was only a social drinker.
She was fined £400 and £100 costs and surcharge and banned from driving for 15 months.
