The meeting got underway on a very warm July evening with 27 members present. Business was discussed and outings arranged and our Summer Tea at Porthoustock Village Hall was organised, as there is no August meeting our September Harvest Festival was also mentioned.

We had a very interesting report from Marian Collins who represented us as the delegate for our area in Cornwall at this year's WI AGM in Cardiff. Marian mentioned the atmosphere in the hall with several thousand women all standing to sing Jerusalem at the beginning. There were interesting speakers in the morning and in the afternoon the resolution to support our high streets was agreed.

We then moved on to our speakers for the evening Vanda Trotman and Margaret Hopkins who gave an enthusiastic talk on the very interesting U3A. Photos of their groups accompanied the talk and Vanda spoke about how the Helston and District U3A came into being, it started with just over 90 members and now has 250 in just four years and they cover a wide range of activities and have a monthly meeting.

After the talk refreshments were provided by Sandie Argyll and Claire Thomson. The competition on the best advice given to you: 1, Marcia Williams; 2, Prue Towner; 3, Zoe Kevern. The flower of the month: 1, Dorothy Kemp; 2, Margie Moore; 3, Zoe Kevern. Our Afternoon Tea is on July 30 at 3pm in Porthoustock Village Hall and our next meeting is on September 19 at 7.30pm and is our Harvest Festival service, supper and auction, which is open to all at the Methodist Hall in St Keverne.
