Although few have responded to councillors' pleas to help them tidy up the town, the efforts of the faithful few is to be applauded.

Entertainment plans for a former Falmouth guest house that wants to sell alcohol until the early hours has led to objections as mystery surrounds the intended use of the property.

"The Times Hotel" on Avenue Road would sell alcohol and play recorded music between 9am and 1.30am on Friday and Saturday and from 9am until 1am the rest of the week. Why remains unclear.

A suspected spinal injury closed Gyllyngvase Beach at the weekend as lifeguards struggled to help a man who had been “pitched into a sandbank.”

MEANWHILE

In this week's Helston Packetout now!

Twelve years ago it was hailed as the saviour of Helston's economy but this week the much-maligned town business park, created with “£2.7 million” of taxpayers' money, took another step towards being sold off.

When it was first mooted, those behind 15-acre park claimed it would support hundreds of jobs.

Alleyways in Helston town centre could be closed off at night as a result of “particularly anti-social behaviour.”

PC Anne Butcher, from Helston police station, told the town’s councillors she was looking into gating off alleyways in Coinagehall Street during evenings and nights.

A barbecue in St Keverne square this Friday will mark the midway point of a successful summer season for the village band.

The band has been busy on the contest circuit, which has included a win and “best euphonium soloist” prize at Weston-Super-Mare.

A surprise send-off saw former teachers and pupils gathering at Boskenwyn Primary School to mark the departure of headteacher Drew Corser.

Staff had organised a Cornish-themed open day, which saw the pupils baking scones, alongside a delicious-looking cake:
